Directions to Mfula Store:
(Routes contain both tar and dirt
roads). Bakkies are preferable if taking the route from
Pietermaritzburg, while the route from Hillcrest is easily
manageable by car.
From Pietermaritzburg
- Head towards Durban on the N3;
- Take the Cato Ridge off ramp;
- Proceed straight on the R103 to Inchanga, passing through the Stop-street at Dunbar’s Spar;
- After 3.1km turn left into the M52 following route T4;
- After 3.2km turn left to Nagle dam, still following route T4;
- Follow the road down into the valley for 5.1km;
- At the taxi rank turn right into the D1002(Phume Khaya Drive);
- After 6.5km take a sharp left down to the river and cross the bridge;
- Turn right onto the dirt road;
- At Khaye’s Tuck Shop fork right;
- After 1.2km turn right onto the Pipeline road;
- After 2.2km turn left, staying on the high road;
- The road is flat for 3km then after 5.8km of decent you arrive at Mfula Store.
Return
- 11km after leaving Mfula Store, take care to turn left at the water filling point (pipe on the right of the road)
From
Hillcrest:
- Head out of Hillcrest on Old Main road towards Botha's Hill;
- Turn right into the Valley Trust Rd/M56;
- After about 10km turn left at the circle at the end of the road;
- Follow the road, which becomes dirt, for 7km;
- The road goes up, before going down to the river.(Please drive carefully);
- Cross
the bridge, Mfula Store is directly ahead;
