January and February 2013, Durban Motion Pictures
visited Mfula Store whilst filming uMalokazana. Durban
Motion Pictures was commisioned by Mzansi Magic (A DSTV
channel) to make a film about Zulu culture. Mfula Store
was approached to provide accommodation for the crew
during their time in the area. Upon their arrival with
script not yet finalised, the crew was impressed by the
beauty of the area and a decision was made to adapt the
script to include Mfula Store. The film uMalokazana meaning 'daughter-in-law' is about a young, engaged, Zulu couple from Durban who visit the family of the groom-to-be in the Valley of 1000 hills before their marriage. Numerous traditional requirements are then placed upon the bride-to-be. She then realises that she must choose between satisfying her fiance's family and staying true to her beliefs. uMalokazana is shown regularly on Mzansi Magic, channel 161 on DSTV. |
